Hamas' Attack on Israel: October-January

 Written by: Marcus Linglue Zhang

On October 7th, 2023, a day which shook the world, armed soldiers led by the terrorist organization Hamas, (officially the Islamic Resistance Movement) fired rockets into the Gaza strip, and even in places as far as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The attack, which took place on the Jewish holiday of Hakafot, killed more than 1,300 Israelites, including at least 31 American citizens.

Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah of Palestine expressed his approval for the attack, saying, “[The attack] sends a message to the Arab and Islamic world, and the international community as a whole, especially those seeking normalization with this enemy, that the Palestinian cause is an everlasting one, alive until victory and liberation.”

However, the assault has grown from a flurry of snow into a blizzard. Immediately after the event, Israel responded by launching several airstrikes onto Islam settlements, killing a few thousand. In these attacks, a hospital in Gaza was bombed by Israel forces, an attack which killed many citizens. President Joe Biden has visited the hospital, and with his “reaffirming” of the Israelis for good intentions, has sparked protests and riots in America.

In the USA,6 protests have taken place, with the community taking up widely varied opinions, but most protests have been made to support Palestinian efforts. These are met with violent protests for Israel, thus cultivating in slight “acts of violence” over the country. Some have already been arrested for their involvement in the protests.

As of right now, it is still uncertain of what the distant wars in the middle east will result in, but with the most recent onslaughts, humans must accept the knowledge to stay together with unified beliefs as much as possible.
