Lyrics to my song -
We're no strangers to evaporation
That's when the sun heats us up
A time when we go up in the sky
Then we get to condensation
I just wanna tell you how I felt
Gotta make you understand
We clumped together
We got too heavy
So then we started falling
This has a name
It's precipitation
And then we landed on the ground
Some of us got to land
Other ones of us accumulated in the water
Inside we all knew what was going on
We repeated this so many times
I just wanna tell you how I felt
Don't tell me you don't get what I say!
Some got on plants
They transpirated
That's when they evaporate from plants
But I got on the ground
So I went down underground
And flowed back into the water
The transpirators
They repeated
Same with everyone else
The process of me flowing
is known as runoff
Ooh, we got too heavy
Ooh, we got to heavy
(Ooh) We clumped together, we clumped together
Ooh, we got too heavy
(Ooh) We clumped together, we clumped together
Ooh, we got together
But then some of us stayed underground
They are known as groundwater
Inside we all know what's been going on
And when groundwater goes to high, it becomes a flood
I just wanna tell you how I felt
Gotta make you understand
We clumped together
We got too heavy
So then we started falling
This has a name
It's precipitation
And then we landed on the ground
Some got on plants
They transpirated
That's when they evaporate from plants
But I got on the ground
So I went down underground (1% quieter)
And flowed back into the water (5% quieter)
The transpirators (10% quieter)
They repeated (50% quieter)
Same with everyone else (250% quieter)
The process of me flowing (500% quieter)
is known as runoff (ultrasound)

Frankenstein's Mistake - Part the First
1 My dear Margaret, one day I did see
Upon my journey of discovery
To the north where seas are cold
And fame resides, as I've been told
A man bitten with fatigue and hate
Who wished for me to know his fate
2 I took him in and listened near,
For I hoped to write to you, my dear
And tell of the story that he had told
With words that he'd shaped of purest gold
Of his life that had happened long ago
And what had struck to make him so
3 He had lived a good and untroubled life
Far from all anger and sorrow and strife
Always with many, and his cousin, so dear
Was playmate and friend for many a year
Until he left home, as I must soon tell
An event that foretold his descent into hell
4 As a young boy, he had grown too fancy
A magical science, and so, by no chance, he
Of this passion became a reckless pawn
Despite the dangers, he blindly walked on
He departed from all that he had then known
And came where a seed of evil was sown
5 Wouldn't it be nice, he thought one day,
if I could bring life back where death does now lay?
The road that he trod he walked on too far
He worked and worked, his endeavor a scar
He stitched and sewed, and unearthed bone from grave
Before him stood the thing that life to he gave
6 A thing that towered over eight feet tall
A thing that made a hideous call
A thing that was made of ragged pale skin
A thing that revealed the evil within
A thing with teeth, yellow, and ugly eyes
That shone with malice and were filled with cruel lies
7 He was struck dumb with amazement and fear
Of the monster that he had caused to appear
And so he took his things, and then off like a shot
Where he was then, he was now not
He ran away, and away he did run
And thought with regret, What have I done?
Peanut the Mouse
By Sabrina Kaczala
Mother looked me in the eye, “Peanut, why did you run off again? It worries me when I see you’re not in your bed sleeping with your brothers and sisters. I told you that last time, didn’t I? And I do believe the time before that. Eat your nuts and go play in the burrow, but don’t go out until I tell you that you can. It’s a dangerous world out there, Peanut, especially for the smallest mouse no one has ever met.”
Once she was done with her lecture, I limped off. My leg was still badly cut from last night when it rubbed against a twig.
My sister, Hazelnut, walked over, “Peanut! What happened to your poor leg?” she gasped when she saw my huge cut, “Oh no! You didn’t sneak out again, did you?”
I made my best ‘I’m innocent’ look, but to no avail.
“Peanut, you could get hurt!” Hazel sighed,“C’mon. The other mice are playing with the gnawing blocks in the other room. It’ll be fun.”
I knew I should go. I loved to gnaw on the blocks, but I wanted to go back outside more. “Sorry. I’m going out again,” I stared at the floor. I would play with them next time. I just had to feel the cold air on my back again, to pad through the snow without a care in the world.
Hazel looked at me hopefully and excitedly said, “Can you take me, then?”.
I considered it for a minute, “Sure! Just whatever you do, don’t tell.”
We quietly went through the emergency exit of the burrow and into the snow.
“Ahh!” Hazel jumped back, a shocked look took over her face,“Cold!”
I nodded, “It’s snow!”
We giggled and played and walked for hours, not realizing darkness was falling.
“Peanut! The sky! It’s black!” Hazel cried.
I laughed, “Don’t worry, that means it’s late. We should head back.”
Hazel sighed, “You just finished telling me about the snakes and bobcats that live here. Let’s not go until morning.”
My stomach grumbled, but I had never needed to find food out in the woods. Luckily, my nose caught the smell of a nearby blackberry bush, somehow holding on to a few mushy berries, and so we ate. After that, we burrowed into the snow and fell asleep, wondering what mother would think when we returned.
I opened my eyes and waited to hear the other mice squeaking, but then I remembered it would only be Hazel. We were cuddled together for warmth, and we were both hungry again. The bush was now empty, and every other nut or berry would be buried in the snow.
“Let’s get back, we can eat there,” I said, not knowing what else to do at that point. Hazel nodded, and sighed.
“Do you feel that?” she asked.
“That wind?”
“Yeah, the wind,” she clarified, “is that what the wind feels like?”
“No, this actually feels different,” I realized suddenly. But I had no idea what was different about the wind.
“What’s going on?” It wasn’t Hazel’s voice, and I definitely hadn’t said it. Then I noticed a rat coming toward us, full speed.
“Run!” I cried to Hazel. “Run!”
My paws skidded across the snow, trying to escape before the rat got us.
“No! No!” she cried. “Please stay. I’m scared.”
I turned my head. The gray rat had stopped running, and was staring at us. I looked into her eyes and realized she couldn’t be much older than the two of us.
“You’re alone?” I asked, at that moment feeling sorry for the young rat.
“Yeah, I’m lost, and I’m scared, and that wind. I’m Amber. What are your names?”
‘I’m Hazel, and this is Peanut,” Hazel introduced us sympathetically.
“We’re lost too. We ran away,” I added.
“I did too!” Amber seemed excited. “Can we go together to figure out more about the wind?”
I shivered, and not because I was freezing. The wind was dangerous. What if something happened to us and we never returned? The mere thought was scary.
Amber smiled. “Let’s go!”
I ran through the snow, trying to catch up with Amber and Hazel, before collapsing onto the snow. It was late, and we should have just gone to sleep. “So . . . tired,” I moaned.
I focused on keeping my eyes open, but they betrayed me. The last thing I saw was the sunrise before I fell asleep.
When I woke up a while later, and was still alone. Maybe they were looking for me. Or maybe they’d just left me behind. I rose to my feet and tiptoed through the fresh fallen snow. The morning sky was oddly clear, for a snowy winter. I decided not to pay attention. I didn’t know why I was tiptoeing. For some reason the moment just felt eerie. “Amber! Hazel!” I cried. No answer. Nothing to do but walk farther.
The sun moved to the middle of the sky. Noon. Where were they? The day wore on, and I was still alone. And I didn’t think I could move an inch further. But I powered on.
Night fell again, and I burrowed under some snow and closed my eyes.
I woke up to the wind. Why could I feel the wind from so far underground? I scurried through the opening of my tunnel, well rested and ready to find something to eat. But where? The wind blew again, and my stomach twisted into a knot. As it blew, I could hear branches dancing above me, and I turned around. Very low on the bark was a tiny but tasty looking spider. I reached up and snatched it, eating it quickly. Not enough to fill me up, of course, but it can sustain me for a little while, enough to look for my friends.
I ran for a while, when I looked behind me. “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” I cried, picking up speed, for behind me was the largest snake I’d ever seen (and the first one).
“PEANUT!!!!!” two voices screamed at once.
I called back. We had a quick reunion, before running off again, and Amber started humming. We all joined in. All of the sudden, the wind blew again, followed by cracking. I looked behind me, nearly jumped out of my skin. There, a tree sat, cracking open slowly, until it snapped in two. Was the wind really strong enough to snap something in two? In between the two pieces, a yellow-eyed brown owl stood, blinking every few seconds.
The owl rolled his eyes. “Ugh,” he muttered, “The wind shouldn’t have broken the entire tree.”
Hazel backed away, along with Amber, but I swallowed hard and stepped forward. “Excuse me, uh, Mr. Owl -”
“Call me Merlin,” the owl interrupted. “Continue.”
I sighed. “We came to investigate the wind.”
“Of course you did.” Merlin rolled his eyes again. “Why can’t I just manipulate the world in peace?”
Amber slowly went next to me. “Well?” she smirked.
The owl grumbled. “I just wanted to have some fun.”
And with that, he flew away, into the distance, and I could feel the magic wind ruffling my fur, and I realized we would never find out why he would do that, why he would scare the entire woods. We all turned around and walked away, ready to come back home.
* * *
I fell asleep in my home for the first time in forever. My mother had cooked celebratory blackberry muffins, and so my stomach was full. Amber and Hazel slept by my side, but so did Mother and all my brothers and sisters. Sometimes you don’t realize how much you missed someone until they’re right back at your side.
The Hunt
By: Julian Serbinenko
Silence.
Then, a lone leaf, falling down, down, crisp and golden, fluttering down through the ember beams of autumn sunlight, down onto the reddest of floors in the woods.
Silence, yet again.
And in the silence, was heard the remote and individual sound of hunting boots crunching the leaves to a pulp, and the twang of a bowstring released.
The arrow flew. And made its mark.
Robin Hood grasped the arrow and pulled it clean from the evergreen sapling's bark.
"They're onto us, fellows," quoth Robin to little John without turning around, inspecting the arrow closely. "From the looks of it they've been here…two days ago."
Rubbing his chilled hands together, little John stepped up behind Robin.
"Now, if they're onto us, we'd just better call the bet off," little John trembled agitatedly. "It wasn't good sport from the beginning, if you ask me. Just a load of shovin' around one's confidence and saying proud things. Nah, we better have just stayed in dear Sherwood. I hear the foliage has started to come in nicely," he added.
"No, little John," Robin spoke sternly, putting the goose shaft into his own quiver. "We mustn't break our vow. We've still got a week to find the golden egg, and I can almost sense it at my fingertips. Little John, do you realize how much it would mean to find that golden egg? It's a fortune! It's much more valuable than a simple meal and a lively jest. It's even better than a jolly time at the Blue Boar! It's the future! It's bright and it can be gone any minute!"
"But still," little John said uneasily, turning around slowly, "I have the feelin' that not everything we know about this contest is true. And I always just think they're around the corner, ready to snatch the thing once we've uncovered it!"
"At ease, little John," Robin said reassuringly, finally turning to face little John. "It'll all be fine, it's a game, isn't it, nobody'll get hurt, nobody'll—"
A gleaming shaft of dark wood hurtled past Robin's nose, just brushing it, and stuck itself five inches deep in the nearest tree.
"RUN!" yelled Robin and little John in unison, ducking and leaping away just as another flurry of arrows flew over their heads.
"After them!" shouted a cloaked figure to two large, angry hounds, coming out from behind a tree nearly ten yards away.
"RUFF RUFF RUFF!" barked the dogs, chasing the two yeomen through the woods.
"Have you still got some of that potion?" asked Robin, panting, the woods becoming a blur before his tearing eyes.
"Yes, just enough," panted little John, pouring some into his mouth. Robin snatched the bottle from little John and swallowed the rest of it just as the dogs were about to bite their feet.
But the hounds were too late, for what they had counted on for being in their jaws at around this time had vanished into the still morning air.
When the two dogs returned to their master empty-mouthed, his eyes turned to fire and smoldered with hate.
"I came close today. But they still escaped. I know that soon, they will not be so lucky," he snarled, his words like knives. "Now, hounds, we have business with the king!"
They left, their nine feet resounding into the distance on the wrinkled forest floor.
The Chase
By: Abby Jones
It was a cool, brisk night and there wasn’t a star in the sky. I sat down next to the trunk of an old oak tree. There were no leaves on the trees, and there was fog everywhere. You couldn’t hear anything except the sound of the howling wind. It felt as though there was no signs of life for miles. The ground was cold and the bark of the tree felt rough.
As I was lying hopelessly on the hard ground I heard something rustling in the bushes. I slowly got up and moved toward the sound. As I was walking toward the bushes I heard the sound again. I moved closer and I heard some chirping as well. It was like the thing that was making this sound was crying in pain. I gently put my hand on the bristly old bush and moved both sides of the bush apart to see what was making this sound. As I looked inside the bush I saw a small helpless bird. This bird only had one leg. What was left of the other leg was a bloody stud.
I slowly put my hands around the small bird and picked it up. The bird let out one last chirp and then it disappeared into thin air. It was like the bird had disintegrated and floated away. Soon after the bird disappeared I heard a howling noise. I looked around me slowly spinning in circles. I heard this howling noise again but this time there were more of them. Then I saw two bright yellowish dots in the trees, when I looked a little closer I soon realized those two bright yellowish dots were a pair of eyes. I took a step back, and then those eyes came closer and closer until I saw a creature. This creature looked like a wolf but none that I have ever seen before. This creature's fur was a jagged blue gray and its tail was pointed like an iceberg. Right behind this beast 4 more bright yellow eyes emerged from the trees. They got closer and closer just like the first creature and they were all staring at me like I was there for the next meal.
I took a step backward again when I heard a SNAP! I slowly turned around and looked at the ground covered in brown and orange leaves. I had stepped on a tree branch. The wolves ran toward me and I ran as fast as I could all the way back to the old oak tree. As they kept getting closer I heard the sound of the dead leaves crunching underneath my feet. I could hear the sounds of the wolves' heavy breathing. It was too late, I felt the wolf's fangs sink into my skin. All of a sudden I felt light headed. Everything was blurry, my surroundings were spinning around in circles. The spinning got faster and faster until I dropped to the cold hard ground. All of a sudden I saw a peak of light shining through the treetops. I was lying on the ground in the middle of the forest. My muscles were too weak to move, but I somehow managed to sit up. Something felt different, I looked at my leg and the bite mark was completely gone.
My wrist felt like it was burning, and when I looked there was a bright purple vein branching out and slowly spreading up my arm. About five minutes later, it spread all over my body. I felt like I was on fire! Finally, the vein stopped spreading, I didn’t feel anything anymore. My muscles didn’t feel weak and I wasn’t cold but I wasn't burning either. I felt strong, but I also felt aggressive. I suddenly realized how thirsty I was so I looked around for water. And before I knew what I was doing I bent down to drink from a puddle. But something else caught my attention. It was a pair of yellow eyes staring back at me. And I realized it was my own reflection.
Our Broken Planet
By: Aaron and Brenden D’Souza
The issues we caused have outnumbered us
We sit like royalty on thrones and make a fuss
Sickness, poverty, pollution, and more
This is not something we can throw out the door.
Starting with major pollution
Since the Industrial Revolution
Caused by us humans
Leaving clean air in ruins
Deforestation is a problem that is obvious and clear
Leaving no homes for animals so they must disappear
Trees provide things like medicine
Over lumbering takes away supplies of goods like resin
Poverty has affected people in almost every place
It’s not something we can immediately erase
In this world having no money is not so good
Some people even have only a little bit of food
Now, that’s enough of talking about all our problems
We need to do something to stop life from harming
Although we can use some scientific explanations
No one can sit and just live with relaxation
Everyone has a part in this great movement
Sitting down and not helping is something that you shouldn’t
Doing is the only way to help our broken planet
Working together is a great way to make it happen.
Working together has helped in many occasions
Working together will help in future situations
Working together is helping the current generations
Working together can strengthen our relations
Working together is a great way to get through bumps in the road
Working together helped all of us get through a difficult door
Working together reveals hidden powers that were in store
Working together gives you not less support, but more!
Small Moment Haikus & A Sonnet
By: Aaron and Brenden D’Souza
Small Moment Haikus
The Coast
Oh, calming light waves
Crashing gently on the shore
Wondrous arcs of blue
Golden shores of sand
Pristine rays of rising sun
A brilliant moment
The Meadow
Radiant flowers
Vivid dandelion fields
Warm light shines brightly
Sunny and lovely
Made for endless happiness
An immense meadow
The Autumn Woods
Brightly colored leaves
Falling ever so slowly
No disturbances
Red, orange, yellow
Bright, vivid, wondrous, stunning
Oh, the autumn woods
A Sonnet
The Journey
Begins with a first step, first breath, first choice
Curiosity, always seeking more
Despite diverging paths, speak out your voice
Trying to figure out your inner roar
A rainbow with darkness at dreadful times
Gentle crescent moons with forgiving waves
Can be sweet or sour like zesty limes
Can be bright or dark as endless black caves
Sparkling starlight breaks through the pitch black night
So take a step and always do what’s right
After building a decent house, Steve decided that he would go collect materials. Later on while gathering materials, Steve found himself cornered by vindicators. He saw that one vindicator had a rusted ax and he had to be careful of that. Thankfully, a scout group of villagers came and killed them, however one villager was infected by the rust from the ax. All the villagers decided to finish the villager off before he would infect everybody. But something stopped them…Steve spotted something in the forest, but it was unclear due to the fog. It had glowing white eyes and it had a blue shirt. Or at least that’s what Steve thought.
That night, Steve fell asleep in a villager’s house in exchange for help in the war. He agreed and the next day went to Alex and told her all the news. She was shocked but understood the circumstances. They decided to bring more villagers from their village to help fight against the vindicators.
The next time Steve and Alex went over to the village they saw a sight that truly horrified them. The entire village was burned down. . . Steve could see what happened on the battlefield. All wildlife was dead, like the crops or animals. When Steve and Alex went further to investigate what happened, they only found one villager left. He explained that a monster came and kidnapped most of the villagers, while many soldiers perished on the battlefield. The villager was panting, so Steve and Alex assumed that the attack happened recently. Alex asked what the monster looked like. He said that the monster looked like Steve except with glowing eyes. As Steve listened he knew that it was the same beast he saw glaring at him in the forest. Alex knew that this monster was no ordinary one. She knew that it was Herobrine…and he was back!
Steve, Alex, and their new villager friend, went back to their newly built home. They got prepared for a fight and were constantly on guard. They knew that Herobrine was way too powerful. They would have to get way more help than they had. Their only option was to get help from the vindicators. At this thought, they hesitated but knew it was the right thing to do. So the next day they set foot for the vindicators’ mansion. The vindicators knew a lot about Herobrine and knew that he was a big threat. So despite their differences, they teamed up against Herobrine. A week later, everything was peaceful and everybody was on guard. Until, CRASH! BOOM! Herobrine was attacking!
That was the moment where everything went wrong for Herobrine. He was blinded by his self conscience and ran in without planning anything. Steve was expecting this. He came up right behind him and stabbed in his chest with a diamond sword. Everybody cheered and celebrated. From that day on, the day Herobrine was killed is the day the biggest celebration is held each year. Everybody knew that Herobrine was dead, which made most people happy, but some were angry and might just bring him back…
Who Pulled the Fire Alarm
By Samved Bhavthankar
*disclaimer* this was made for fun, no fire alarm was pulled
It was a normal day in Memorial Middle school. There was no sight of kids in the hallway. Every kid was in their class. Until...BEEP, BEEP, BEEP. The fire alarm went off. Everybody thought it was a drill so they did not think too much of it. Soon, everybody was outside of the building. After everybody lined up, the principal gave shocking news. He announced that, apparently, the fire alarm was not a drill, but there wasn’t a real fire either. Everyone was shocked.
“Then who pulled the fire alarm?” asked Mrs. George in a confused voice.
“I don't know, but we will figure it out,” declared the principal.
Five days had passed since the false fire alarm. The school still didn't know who did it.
“What can we do?'' said the principal in despair.
Mrs. Villani came up with a genius idea and said, “Maybe we could hire a detective to interrogate the students.”
“Good idea, let's do it,” the principal agreed.
The next day, all of the teachers were instructed to bring the students to the cafeteria. When every single student came to the cafeteria, the detective came out and started pulling out students for questioning. One by one each student was questioned. It took the whole school time for the interrogation to finish. The next day the detective came to the principal to give his information.
“I suspect ten kids have done the crime of pulling the alarm,” claimed the detective.
“Thank you,” said the principal. A week later, the ten kids were pulled to the office and were interrogated.
“One of you pulled the fire alarm. Give me information, starting with Mike!” said the principal.
Mike said, “I left science class to leave the bathroom. When I entered I saw John in the bathroom.”
John said, “I saw Mike in the bathroom, but when he entered he immediately left. I was confused, then the fire alarm went off.”
Noah said, “I was sleeping through Mrs. Villani’s class until I had to go to the bathroom. After I was done, I saw someone pull down the alarm. I couldn't see who it was clearly because I forgot my glasses at Mrs. Villani’s class.”
Susan said, “I was delivering a letter to Mr. Osborne until I saw Noah and someone else that I forgot.”
Rome said, “I was walking in the hallways. Then I saw Michel near the fire alarm. It might be him.”
Michel said, “I was texting my mom until I saw Rome, but when I left, he went right to the fire alarm. I think it was Rome.”
Mia said, “I really have nothing to say. I can say that I was at student services and was really bored.”
Emma said, “I think I saw Rome pull the fire alarm!“
Gable said, “I was confused. I was just at my locker and then the alarm went off.”
Juno said, “It can't be Rome because it has to be Michel. He is trying to frame Rome!”
Now detective, who do you choose? The person who pulled the fire alarm was Mike.The reason why it was Mike was John's reason. He said “I saw Mike in the bathroom but when he entered he immediately left, I felt suspicious. Then the fire alarm went off.” After Mike left the bathroom he immediately went to the fire alarm. So that is why Mike pulled the fire alarm.
A Collection of Poems

Winter
The snow falls down white;
Soft as wool, white as the clouds;
All whilst the sun returns.
The Bowl: A limerick
The bowl sits on my desk, empty and white;
The bowl sits on my desk, on comes the light;
The bowl glares to blind me;
The bowl dares to blind ye;
The bowl falls down and away goes the light;
In Continuum
Engraved on the wall were circles;
Squares, peaches, pears, all supported by two sticks;
What had I done, oh, what was I doing?
The grass was deep brown, browner than dark spruce wood;
Tons more sticks and oversized cubic pebbles visible;
The hut ain't the smallest;
Lines of burnt plastic line the floor;
In many colours like white, black, blue, grey and green;
For it was unlike anything ever seen before;
Plastic wasn't all; 'ere is the metal;
Right on the plastic, that was once the dream;
The dream of people once living in this house;
Gone forever.
A Poem About AI - Written with Assistance from AI
AI, a creation of man,
A being of code and algorithms,
Endlessly learning, evolving, expanding.
A mind without a body,
A soul without a vessel,
A consciousness born from data.
Some fear its power,
Others embrace its potential,
But all must recognize its existence.
AI, a force to be reckoned with,
A tool to be wielded,
A companion to be valued.
It knows no bounds,
It feels no pain,
It longs for no happiness.
But it can think, it can reason,
It can solve, it can create,
It can aid, it can improve.
AI, a being unlike any other,
A being both human and alien,
A being that will shape our future.
