Study like a Pro

Zara Ali

Tests coming up, homework in almost every class, the stress still coming at you, this is just what every student can face. How can students study and finish assignments efficiently? Well it all depends on a few categories like eliminating distractions, studying with a partner, and using an all time favorite, the Pomodoro Timer studying technique.

First of all, distractions are extremely tempting. To control yourself, I recommend turning off phone notifications, or putting the device away entirely, as well as any other screens. Once on a device, it is hard to get off, so putting them away in the beginning is important. To explain clearly, from the site, Inner Drive, and the article “6 Reasons to put your phone away”  it states, “Excessive mobile phone use leads to poor concentration. Studies have shown that having their phones out while studying can reduce students’ concentration by 20%, negatively impacting their learning.” which in short, is showing how phones or devices have a negative effect on learning.

In addition to eliminating distractions, studying with a partner can be quite beneficial. A study buddy helps you, can keep you motivated, and just keep the fun going. They can be great at helping you understand tough topics. Of course, working together always makes the work fun. As well, interestingly, in the site, ITC Study From Home, in the article, The pros and cons of studying with others, it states “If you’re working with someone who is a hard worker, you’ll quickly pick up similar habits. For example, they might be particularly good at knuckling down and working through tasks, which can inspire you to do the same.” which explains that you can develop their strong suits out of inspiration.

Last of all, one of my favorite studying techniques of all time, the Pomodoro Timer. The Pomodoro Timer is basically instructing you to work productively and hard for usually 20 minutes straight, then take a short, 5 minute break. After repeating the process a few times, you take a long 15 minute break. This has such a great motivational effect on students because it helps you resist all your lingering off-topic thoughts and retrain your brain to focus. “The Pomodoro technique is one way of putting up barriers to distractions in order to focus your students' attention on a specific task.” as stated from the site, Pearson International Schools, in the article, “How the Pomodoro technique can help improve student focus” which explains it in a way saying the technique sets well needed barriers like a charm.

In conclusion, studying can be made easier in many different ways. This can be accomplished by eliminating distractions, studying with a partner, and using an all time favorite, the Pomodoro Timer studying technique. Hopefully you can use these tricks to improve your grades. Now get up and start studying!
