April 19, 1775 - The Battles of Lexington and Concord commenced, starting the American Revolution. The Battle of Bunker Hill commenced on June 17, 1775, making it the first major battle of the American Revolutionary War. The Patriots fought hard and even though they were forced to abandon and retreat, they proved that they weren’t afraid of the British. Out of the 2,200 British men, 1000 of them died or were wounded in battle. The Patriots had lost 115 men & 305 were wounded. The South Carolines were able to rebel against an attack on Charleston on June 28, 1776. The British weren’t able to land their troops on the Island & the tricky waters left the British Navy frustrated, forcing them to retreat; South Carolina wouldn’t be touched for another three years. In July 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed by most of the colonies, declaring American Independence & making them eligible for help from Spain & France. In December of 1776 on Christmas night, George Washington and his army crossed the Delaware River, surprising the Germans fighting for Britain at Trenton the next morning. The Patriots would win a similar success on January 3, 1777 in Princeton, making it a huge moral success for the Patriots. But what is to come? What is to be expected? Will the Patriots continue to win or lose in the end? Stay tuned for part 2 coming out soon.
